Along with the Chamber Orchestra of Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs Conservatory (“Conservatory”) returns to Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday and Thursday, November 28-29 with its annual Christmas production of Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Under the direction of Thomas Wilson, the music director of the Chamber Orchestra, this colorful, enchanting one-act light opera written by American composer Gian Carlo Menotti is sung in English and is perfect for the whole family.
Tickets are $20, plus applicable fees, and can be purchased at the Pikes Peak Center box office, PikesPeakCenter.com, AXS.com or via phone at (719) 520-SHOW. Tickets can also be purchased at The Broadmoor World Arena box office or BroadmoorWorldArena.com. Performances start at 7 p.m. each evening.
The $20 ticket price will help the Conservatory continue to bring this type of quality student and community programming to its patrons. Proceeds after event costs will support the Conservatory’s scholarship initiative. Donations can be made online and at the box office during the ticketing process. Ticket holders donating $200 or more will enjoy a special VIP reception prior to the performance and premium seating for both the opera and the jazz nativity.
Originally commissioned by NBC in 1951 and first performed by the NBC Opera Theatre, Amahl and the Night Visitors is the first opera that was specifically composed for television in the United States.
