COLORADO SPRINGS (April 16, 2018) – On Friday and Saturday, July 27-28, the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang (the Korean word that translates to “festival”), created by the 1988 U.S. Olympic Head Coach Grandmaster Sang Lee, returns to Colorado Springs and The Broadmoor World Arena for its 10th annual event.
The two-day competition will feature Taekwondo competition for Traditional Forms, Creative Forms, Board Breaking, and a Demonstration Team competition. This competition is for students of all ages and belt ranks; athletes from age 4 to 90 and from Yellow Belt to high-ranking Black Belt travel from all over the world to Colorado Springs to compete. The U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang is also a part of the Rocky Mountain State Games – Colorado’s largest multi-sport festival for athletes of all ages and athletic abilities. More than 2,500 spectators will be in attendance, with 1500 athletes competing.
The opening ceremonies take place on Friday, July 27 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. and will feature a parade of athletes, the Colorado Springs Police Department Color Guard, the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, cultural performances, and a demonstration by the world famous professional Taekwondo Demonstration Team, the Korean Tigers.
